About Us

The Finglas Youth Resource Centre CLG has been providing youth work programmes, informal education and opportunities for young people since 2004. The youth centre itself is purpose built and has been providing a place of welcoming and belonging, a place for the young people to come and be themselves, providing a safe space to learn, develop and grow in confidence at a time in their lives of uncertainty and rapid growth.

We are governed by a Voluntary Board who are enthusiastic, dedicated and young person focused. The Finglas Youth Resource Centre is a registered charity and is compliant with the charity regulators “Governance Code”.

We have three core projects within the FYRC:

  • Our main source of funding is through DCEDIY’s UBU “Your Place Your Space” born from an area-based needs assessment and guided by our service requirement the FYRC’s objective is to deliver outcomes for young people focusing on five main target groups.
  • The Finglas Minceiri Youth Project aims to promote the health and well-being of young Travellers. By working in partnership with young Travellers we develop programmes that are outcome and needs-focused, this includes social groups and developmental and skills-based workshops. The Traveller project is a needs-based project that works primarily with Travellers living on sites in the Dublin 15 area that borders Finglas. This project is funded and supported by the HSE through the HSE social inclusion office.
  • Our Targeted Youth Employability Support Initiative (TYESI) is a project that seeks to engage and support the harder to reach young people aged 15 to 24 years who are not currently in employment, education, or training. It offers one to one coaching and mentoring, skills based programmes, CV support and more, to young people living within the wider Finglas area.

Funding from Leargas and other agencies helps us deliver youth exchanges, residentials and other targeted based programmes.

Our team are very passionate about youth work, working with young people from the ages of 10 to 25 years from all diverse backgrounds providing varying supports and activities that are integral to young people within the Finglas community.

Our Approach

The FYRC approach is very much underpinned by the values of youth work. It is young person centred, respects all young people, keeps with the equality and inclusion ethos and empowers young people to become their best selves. We deliver a variety of programmes based on young people’s needs and interests through non-formal educational approaches. Supporting the personal and social development of young people from the Finglas community to add value to their lives is essential within our work. We also focus on developing the skills and competences to enable young people to become more effective in their decisions and relationships, which helps to build confidence, provides role models, give new experiences and give young people a sense of belonging within their own community.

Through this process the outcomes and success we all want to see for young people can be realised.

Vision, Mission, Values:

Vision

A community where young people are safe, recognised, empowered, and supported to reach their full potential.

Mission

The FYRC meets the needs of young people by providing them with a variety of response-based supports, fun activities, and opportunities to enable them to learn, grow and be safe in their own community.

Values:

The set of values that will guide and underpin our work are as follows:

Voluntary Participation:

We believe that voluntary participation is central to the active engagement of young people within the FYRC and are committed to being young person centred.

Inclusion & Equity:

The FYRC takes an equitable approach in relation to its work with young people by recognising and responding to the various complex needs that young people can face in the Finglas community.  We promote a non-judgmental safe space that is accessible and encourages diversity. We believe in a space that promotes freedom of expression and opinion for all.

Equality & Social Justice:

Ensuring a human rights-based support that provides space for discussion and disagreement, that is pro young people and young people’s rights. We will promote equality, empathy, and respect within all our work with young people and advocate on behalf of young people and their rights. We also strive to empower young people to advocate for themselves, their rights, and their community.

Fun & Collaborative:

We recognise the importance of creating fun and enjoyable safe experiences for young people. We believe that these experiences should be created in collaboration with young people to empower them to reach their full potential. We are also committed to working in collaboration with other local, national, and European organisations to meet the needs of the young people we work with.
