UBU Project
Our UBU youth project, guided by an area-based needs assessment, offers a wide variety of programmes, drop-ins, supports, and activities to young people living within the Finglas area. We work collaboratively with young people, ensuring their voices shape the service we provide. By fostering a youth-led approach, we create meaningful opportunities for participation, leadership, and personal growth. Through partnership and engagement, we support young people in building confidence, developing new skills, and reaching their full potential in a safe and inclusive environment.
Traveller Project
The Finglas Minceiri Youth Project aims to promote the health and well-being of young Travellers. By working in partnership with young Travellers we develop programmes that are outcome and needs-focused, this includes social groups and developmental and skills-based workshops.
We have weekly site work sessions where we meet young people and families on local sites. This allows us to keep current with what is happening for the young people and connect with young people who may not be actively involved with in-centre work.
The Traveller project is a needs-based project that works primarily with Travellers living on sites in the Dublin 15 area that borders Finglas. These are areas which are not funded under the UBU scheme.
The Minceiri Youth project is funded by the HSE.
Targeted Youth Employability Support Initiative (TYESI)
The FYRC employability support project provides a young person centred, youth work approach that caters for a diverse range of young people who are currently not in any education setting, unemployed and not enrolled in any training. Our focus is on developing relationships with young people first, then working with them to identify what steps they need to take to be employment ready. Soft skill development with a focus on their strength, abilities and potential to build young people up to be able to progress into traditional employment support, education courses or employment.
Hear Me Out
We offer a free counselling service with a minimum of eight sessions with qualified Counsellors who are registered with a recognised professional body.
If you are a young person seeking support, Hear Me Out offers a safe space with a qualified counsellor where you can talk, feel heard, and reflect on issues that matter to you. Sessions provide meaningful support, helping young people recognise their strengths, develop new coping skills, and build confidence, fostering a more hopeful outlook for the future.
Who is the project for?
Young people 12 – 24 years in the Dublin 11 and bordering communities.
How will I know that Hear Me Out is right for me?
Although we believe strongly that talking about our experiences with a trained Counsellor can have a positive impact on how we feel and think about ourselves and our situations, it is not for everyone. But you will not know until you try, we have a number of counsellors working on the service and will work closely with you to ensure we can meet your needs
Background:
The Hear Me Out Project was launched in September 2020 in response to the complex needs of young people in the community, which could not be fully addressed by the existing youth work team. The initiative began after a young adult, who had previously engaged with the service as a teenager, reached out for support, prompting a community needs assessment.
The assessment highlighted the need for a dedicated youth and adolescent counselling service.
Our service, delivered in partnership with Finglas Counselling Service, is currently funded through Dormant Accounts, Sláintecare, and community fundraising efforts.
Youth Exchanges
The Finglas youth resource centre strives to empower young people by providing them with opportunities to learn and grow and become positive active citizens in their own community. One such crucial resource is that of Erasmus+ youth funding that allow us to offer international youth exchanges to young people living in the Finglas area. The FYRC have been working with Leargas and Erasmus+ for over 15 years and in that time have participated in youth exchanges to Italy, the Netherlands, Greece, Spain and France to name just a few. We have also welcomed and hosted many of our European partners to Ireland.
Through Erasmus+ funding, FYRC aims to:
- Provide young people living in Finglas with opportunities to broaden their horizons and gain new experiences.
- Challenge young people’s personal perceptions of themselves and others. To develop and foster independence and motivate them to achieve their full potential.
- Promote solidarity, and a sense of European identity and citizenship among all stakeholders.
European Solidarity Corps (ESC)
Since 2015 we have been involved in 10 ESC (formally EVS) projects. We have hosted both short and long term projects and sent short term. These projects offer an inspiring and empowering experience for the young people involved, as well as the chance to bring positive change while developing your skills and competences. It often Includes opportunities to travel, to engage in experiential learning, cultural awareness, broaden horizons, learn new skills and build solidarity amongst young people. We have seen in the past that engagement in European Solidarity Corp programmes has provided such opportunities to the young people we work with and provided tangible outcomes within their personal development and future pathways.
Youth Participation with Purpose!
Youth Forum is all about empowering young people in Finglas to get involved, share their opinions, and make a real difference in their community and youth services. The goal is to create a junior board of management and a youth forum, giving young people a voice and a say in how things are run. This setup will allow for a clear path, where you can start at the youth forum, move to the junior board, and eventually have a spot on the main board of management. It's all about making sure youth voices are heard at every level! Youth Participation with Purpose!
